The Jalpaiguri Law College  was established in the Year 1981. The College is affiliated to the University of North Bengal and approved by B.C.I. & GOVT. of West Bengal. In addition there are a good number of qualified full-time, part-time and honorary Advocate teachers. Relentless efforts on the part of the teaching and non-teaching staff coupled with their warmth and co-operation have provided a friendly, amiable ambience to students who wish to excel and shine in life. It is a co-educational college. The college has N.S.S Unit, Centre for Clinical Legal Aid and Chip canteen for students. The total students strength of the college is 400 (APP). The Governing body of the college is constituted as per the statue of the University of North Bengal. The college has well equipped library with good number of test reference book  for running the five year Law  Course.

The College was first started on 14.09.1981 with three year law course and introduced Five Year Law Course from the session 2000-2001. The College was inspected by the Bar Council of India, on 29.09.1981 and 20.12.2004 and by the Inspection Team of State Bar Council, W.B. on 26th , 27th & 28th May 2006.

  • Total number of applications received for admission in the 1 st Year of the   Five      Year    Law Course was 156 ( For the academic session 2005-2006)
  • Total Number of students selected for admission in the 1 st Year was 151 ( out of which 94 got admitted for the session 2005-2006)
  • Minimum eligibility Criteria  is 10 + 2 passed with 45% for General  candidate and 40 for %S.C. & S.T. candidates. Age should not exceed 20years 6 months  for general candidate. and 21 years 6 months for S.C. &  S.T. candidates as on 1 st June of the respective year.
  • Percentage of successful student in the University examination from class wise
          L.L.B. 1 st Year = 69.84% passed 22.22% Promoted
          L.L.B. 2 nd Year=60% passed 38.75% Promoted
          L.L.B. 3 rd Year=78% passed 16.36% Promoted
          L.L.B. 4 th Year =81.80% Passed
          L.L.B. 5 th Year=100% Passed

The Students generally come from the local schools, from other areas of the State and from other States of India or from abroad.

Total number of books in the Library: 4592
Reading hours of the Library is 11 A.M. to 4 P.M
Details of Law Journals and periodicals subscribed: Calcutta Law Journal, Lobour Law Journal, law Teller, Indian bar Review.

Practical Training

Moot Court, Court Visit, Legal Aid Camp, Legal Awareness Camp etc are conducted by the College, Students used to visit Jalpaiguri District Court under the supervision of experienced Teachers. Five numbers of moot Courts held during the year, 2005 - 2006. Students attend Inter-College Moot Court Competition organized by Department of Law. University of North Bengal  and got 2 nd Prize.

Medium of instructions in the College is English.

Source of Income:  Fees from the students and gifts, donations     and developmental funding by the Govt., Semi Govt. Organization and other. No Capitation fee is charged.
